McGovern Medical School (MMS) at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston) seeks a dynamic physician leader to serve as Chair of the Department of Dermatology. The Chair will have the opportunity to build upon the department's strengths, driving innovation, enhancing collaboration, and advancing excellence in clinical care, research, and education.

The Department of Dermatology is esteemed for its exceptional clinical care across more than six locations, with primary facilities at UT Physicians Dermatology Clinic at Bellaire Station and multiple Harris Health clinics. The department fosters a collaborative work environment, emphasizing interdisciplinary partnerships with other departments across the institution and with the UT MD Anderson Cancer Center (UTMDACC) Department of Dermatology. With expertise spanning adult and pediatric dermatology, surgical dermatology, dermatopathology, and cosmetic treatments, it ensures comprehensive and expert care for all patients.
The department has an annual operating budget exceeding $4 million and is comprised of 7 full-time clinical faculty, 3 adjunct faculty, 2 affiliate faculty and 1 research faculty. It is further supported by 2 advanced practice providers, 1 research scientist and 20 full-time employees, all of whom play a vital role in daily operations.
The Chair oversees all departmental programs, including an ACGME-accredited Dermatology residency shared with UTMDACC, fostering excellence in education, clinical training, and research. The department currently comprises 21 residents, along with 1 fellow in clinical research and 1 fellow in dermatopathology. Faculty and residents secure annual research funding from various sources, including pharmaceutical companies driving therapeutic advancements
Qualifications:
Candidates for the Chair position should be board certified in Dermatology, have served in an academic leadership role in a school of medicine, and be eligible for appointment as a senior-level faculty member. Exceptional personal and leadership qualities are required, with a documented history of implementing clinical and educational programs, mentoring and supporting faculty development and scholarship, and promoting innovative research..
