Corporate Communications Specialist (Houston, TX) (Finance)
Seeking an energetic and detail-oriented communications specialist with excellent writing, storytelling and project management skills, especially under pressure and on deadline.
Compensation package commensurate with experience and skill set.
Duties:
The successful candidate will provide full-service internal and external communications activities including:
Internal & External Communications activities - assist in researching, writing and designing fact sheets, blog posts, white papers, backgrounders, stories/articles and other communication materials needed to meet business and corporate objectives. Create and produce videos and podcasts. Edit articles and newsletters from business units and shared services groups (such as HR, Facilities, etc.) as needed upon request. Provide financial communications writing support for quarterly earnings release.
Crisis Communications - on a rotating basis, serve as a member of the emergency response "on call" team to write and obtain approval for media statements addressing any issues related to our 24/7 operations. This part of the job will require after-hours and weekend work, as needed. Participate in worst-case drills as needed. Some travel is required.
Media Relations and Public Relations support - serve as a company spokesperson specializing in your assigned business units. Write news releases and media statements, coordinate interviews with, and provide counsel to, business unit management, pitch and place stories with trade and other media. Conduct daily news monitoring and circulate media clips to management.
Kinder Morgan Foundation - provide back-up administrative and program management support to the program manager of the KM Foundation by processing grants, coordinating with organizations and employees seeking support and preparing reports on Foundation activities, as needed.
General Communications Support - serve as primary contact with vendors to process payments, set up systems, pull reports and coordinate activities for the Corporate Communications team. Manage relationships with media wire service and media monitoring service providers (currently Business Wire and Meltwater). Assist with PowerPoint development, design and artwork, logistics support and accounting and reconciliation activities.
Website and Intranet - serve as the primary contact for employees requesting changes to the Kinder Morgan website and home page for the company's intranet. Utilize content management system (Kentico) for developing and updating content and coordinate changes/additions with IT, as needed.
Internal Media Training - conduct media training classes for select personnel across the U.S. regarding the company's media policy and how to work with Corp Comm when responding to an incident (some travel required).
Social Media (Development & Tracking) - develop monthly content calendars to promote business units, outreach efforts and employee relations activities. Track metrics, develop annual

Develop videos, podcasts, blogs and other multi-media tactics to support key initiatives, working with all levels of leadership for approvals prior to distribution. Also provide social media monitoring during a crisis/ incident and as inquiries come in.
Position Requirements
Qualifications:
A strong writing background (for developing stories utilizing good journalism practices); crisis communications, design and video experience are all strongly desired. Experience in the energy industry is preferred. AP Style editing is required. The completion of FEMA's ICS-100 and ICS-200 courses is preferred. Must be detail-oriented and capable of managing multiple projects concurrently, producing accurate/quality work in a time-sensitive environment. Self-starter and resourceful team player who accepts the responsibility of being available after hours for crisis communications, executive support and media-related activities. Skilled in social media platforms and reporting metrics. Strong PowerPoint expertise required. Candidate must have 5-7 years of communications experience, with a preference toward experience in journalism, public relations and corporate settings. A bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications, English or a related field is required.
