Early Childhood Teacher (Education)

Position Summary:
Under direct supervision of the Childcare Program Manager ensures that the children in the Childcare Program receive appropriate physical, nutritional, social, emotional and developmental care in accordance with established rules and regulations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Prepares materials and supplies needed for daily activities.
Organizes and participates in games, reads to children, and teaches them simple painting, drawing, handwork, songs, and similar activities.
Guides children in exploring their interests, building self-confidence and self-esteem.
Directs children in eating, resting, exercising and toileting.
Helps children develop habits of caring for own clothing and picking up and putting away toys and books.
Maintains daily health and safety routines and standards according to established policies and procedures.
Assists in recording each childs progress and growth; confers with parents as needed.
Maintains daily progress reports, activity logs, and accident reports; assists in maintaining educational and activity calendars.
Serves meals and refreshments to children and regulates rest periods.
Assists in preparing food and cleaning quarters.
Reports any indication of abuse or neglect.
Maintains professional knowledge by attending meetings, conferences and educational workshops.
Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED plus two years experience in caring for children; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Fluency in the Keres language preferred. Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation including a motor vehicle check. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico drivers license and be insurable under the Pueblos insurance.
Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications:
Knowledge of early childhood development, diet and nutrition guidelines.
Knowledge of Santa Ana Pueblo traditions, language, history and culture.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
Ability to represent the organization in a professional manner, building respect and confidence.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Ability to carry out instructions furnished in verbal or written format.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Ability to obtain a Food Handlers certification
Ability to become certified in CDA, First Aid and CPR.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; and walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment:
Work is generally performed in a childcare/nursery setting with a moderate noise level where employee may be exposed to unpleasant odors, hazardous material and infectious disease.
