Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Road & Bridge Superintendent, the Road & Bridge Operations Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of the Road & Bridge Division and all related operations, work efforts, personnel, and machinery. The Road & Bridge Operations Supervisor serves as Acting Director in the absence of the Road & Bridge Superintendent. The Road & Bridge Operations Supervisor is responsible for notifying the Road & Bridge Superintendent of problems encountered.

Essential Function Statement(s)
Assist in the hiring, performance evaluation, and discipline of staff.
Assist in creating and implementation of ongoing training plans for personnel.
Assists in the preparation of annual division budget.
Assists in developing division goals and objectives.
Respond to public inquiries, both in person and on the telephone, both on and off the job, which is conducive to the efficient operation of the agency and which promotes a positive image of Ford County, the agency, and its employees.
Arranges for utility companies to locate utility lines on proposed construction sites.
Arranges and attends field meetings with property owners and utility companies.
Issues purchase orders according to county purchasing policy.
Sets production standards.
Inspects work against standards.

Position qualifications
Competency Statement(s)
Pass a post offer/ pre-employment drug screen.
Possess a valid Kansas Driver's License.
Ability to obtain CDL (if not already acquired) within six (6) months of hiring.
Accuracy - Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
Communication, Oral and Written - Ability to communicate effectively with others using the spoken word and proper writing style in all communication vehicles.
Problem Solving - Ability to find a solution for or to deal proactively to work-related problems.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Experience: More than five years of heavy construction experience is required, at least three of which is in a supervisory capacity. Employee is expected to have acquired the necessary information and skills to perform the job reasonably well after six months in the position.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required. Special state certifications may be required.
Skills: Thorough knowledge of concrete and asphalt work; soil compaction; construction materials and equipment; and mathematics. The ability to operate hand and power tools and other related equipment.
Problem Solving: Problem solving is a factor in this position. Problems include scheduling equipment and manpower; calculating material quantities; evaluating price proposals; and handling citizens' concerns and complaints.
Decision Making: Frequent decision-making is required.
Accountability: Employee is responsible for budgetary control of the division and does participate in the annual budget process.
Supervision: Supervision occurs continually. Employee has supervisory responsibility over subordinate personnel.
Personal Relations: Frequent contact with other county departments, townships, taxing entities, state and local governments, contractors, and the general public.
Working Conditions: Some adverse working conditions will exist relative to weather and construction site conditions. Ability to verbally communicate with employees and general public; work extended hours (night and/or day) as required; stand for long periods of time; lift and carry tools, parts, and construction materials; ability to drive car or pickup.
