Job Hours: Times May Vary - Two (2) Position - (1) 8:00AM - 5:00PM and (2) 10:00AM - 7:00PM
Base Location: Gwinnett Co./Lawrenceville, GA.

View Point Health is a community behavioral health organization utilizing a team of psychiatrists, nurses, licensed counselors and social workers, as well as other professionals to provide services to individuals who need treatment and support to cope with mental illness, substance abuse, and intellectual and developmental disabilities. View Point Health serves uninsured, underinsured, low-income Medicaid, Medicare, war veterans and some private insurance across multiple locations with a full continuum of behavioral health services and support.
The Crisis Support Specialist is a professional designated to assist with providing immediate emotional and practical support to individuals experiencing a crisis situation, such as a mental health concern, traumatic event, or natural disaster, by assessing their needs, offering active listening, de-escalation techniques, and connecting them to appropriate resources and support systems/services.
The Crisis Support Specialist will support Lawrenceville Outpatient Center front office staff with individuals arriving on an emergency walk-in basis.
Under general supervision, counsel with emphasis on prevention and/or behavior modification. Works with individuals and groups to promote optimum mental health. May help individuals deal with addictions and substance abuse, family, parenting, and marital problems, suicide, stress management, problems with self-esteem, and issues associated with aging and mental and emotional health.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Respond to emergency situations and provide immediate assistance to individuals in crisis
Responsible for organizing/scheduling transportation for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis (1013 for Mental Health).
Oversee a select number of clients for psychosocial rehabilitation - Individual (PSR-I)
Conduct risk assessments in accordance with programming policies and procedures and develop safety plans to ensure the well-being of clients, to include referrals, and advocacy to assist participants in accessing services and resources.
Facilitate referrals to community resources and provide appropriate and necessary follow-up to referral sources and ongoing support to clients as needed
Collaborate with other agencies and organizations to ensure a coordinated response to crisis situations
Document all crisis intervention services provided to clients in accordance with agency guidelines.
Provide follow-up services and support to clients after a crisis situation has been resolved.
Bill for services and track utilization.
Other Duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university OR Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited college or university AND Two years of related experience OR One year of experience at the lower-level Behavioral Health Counselor 1 (HCP100) or position equivalent. Note: Some positions may require certification or licensure.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to actively listen, clearly communicate, and build rapport with individuals in crisis situations.
Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques, including de-escalation strategies, safety planning, and emotional regulation strategies.
Understanding of common mental health issues and their symptoms, as well as crisis situations related to trauma, abuse, or substance use.
The ability to connect with individuals experiencing distress and provide genuine support.
The Ability to assess situation quickly, identify appropriate interventions, and make informed decisions in crisis situations.
At least 1 year of experience working with SPMI (Severe Persistent Mental Illness) population
Requirements/Competencies:
Must be able to lift 20 pounds.
Requires long periods of sitting/standing.
Must have valid Georgia driver's license and Motor Vehicle Record in accordance with company policy.
Candidates for selection must pass a criminal background check (including fingerprinting).
Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and subject to random drug screens.
Any combination of training and experience, which would have enabled the applicant to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities
Note: Some positions may require a valid driver's license.
